The Performing Arts Department sets out with an educational ideal that will cover the theoretical and practical fields of the performing, where the art of theatre, which has been an ancient tradition for over 25 centuries, is handled with a contemporary, critical, and innovative approach. While the department aims to train theatre people who will make intellectual, theoretical, and literary contributions to the field at national and international level; it adopts a pluralistic and interdisciplinary approach that focuses on ecological, social, and ethical issues in parallel with the dynamics of the age.
Within the Performing Arts Department, there are two sub-departments: Dramatic Writing & Dramaturgy, and Theatre.*
Our department offers an undergraduate program in which text, directorial, and dramaturgy practices, which have been in constant contact with each other since the first quarter of the 20th century, are handled as a dynamic whole. After the first four semesters with emphasis on theatre history and theory, conventional dramaturgy and dramatic writing practices, in the last four semesters, a program in which text, direction, and dramaturgy practices are handled as a creative, intellectual, and dynamic process awaits students in accordance with the nature of contemporary performances.
